There’s something about a Jack, and that’s true, whether you’re talking about a purebed or a mix. And some Jack mixes are adorable! And they have adorable names, too! Let’s have a look.

Jack-a-Bee

The Jack-a-Bee is a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Beagle. And if Jacks are the cutest dogs around, Beagles take a close second. Look at that face!

Pros

Aside from cute? The Jack-a-Bee is sturdy and tough. They’re also energetic and fun-loving. And the Beagle influence gives many of them a sweet temperament that makes them a great family dog. They also don’t require a lot of grooming.

Cons

On the other hand, some Jack-a-Bees take the typical JRT willfulness and combine it with the single-mindedness of the Beagle, making this mix sometimes difficult to train. So give it some thought.

Jack Chi

No, it’s not the name of a martial arts movie star! A Jack Chi is a wee little dog that is a cross between a Jack Russell Terrier and a Chihuahua. And O-M-G, look at this one.

Pros

If you want a tiny bundle of energy, you’ve got one! These types also make a fearless pint-sized watchdog. And with influences from the Chihuahua and the Jack, you’ll always have someone to talk to.

Cons

Unfortunately, many of these little doggos are prone to different hereditary health issues. Food and environmental allergies are common.

Pros

These clever, affectionate dogs are quick to learn and easy to train. They love to be touched, and are very social as well.

Cons

Some people say Jack Russell Terriers are hyperactive. Well, hand a JRT an espresso, and you have a Jack-a-Rat. This pup will definitely need a lot of exercise, and may need some lessons in manners when out on a leash.

Jack Tzu

No, this isn’t Lao Tzu’s dog. This bright-eyed pupper is a cross between a Jack and a Shih Tzu. This is considered a designer breed, and as such, can be quite expensive.

Pros

The Shih Tzu is alert and active, and is a natural watchdog. Combined with the Jack, you get an affectionate, outgoing pup. This breed also does well alone for long periods of time, so your Jack Tzu isn’t likely to get bored and tear up your pillows while you’re at work.

Cons

Unfortunately, the Jack Tzu is prone to numerous health problems, including issues with the kidneys, bladder, and liver. Many of them are also deaf.

Jackadoodle

Poodles seem to mix it up with a lot of breeds, bringing their cuteness, intelligence, and sociability with them. This is definitely the case with the Jackadoodle (or Jackapoo).

Pros

Loyal and loving, the Jackadoodle makes an excellent family pet. They’re energetic but not hyper. Also, they’re typically healthy, with a lifespan of 12 to 15 years.

Cons

They can be quite loud and barky. Does this come from the Jack side or the Poodle side? Or perhaps a bit of both?

Marvellous Mixes

There’s a lot to be said for a purebred Jack. But mixes can be marvelous as well. Do you have a Jack Russell Terrier mix? Tell us about it in the comments!
