If you hang around the Internet long enough, you’re bound to come across articles with titles like The Best Dog For Your Zodiac Sign.

Well, we already know that the Jack Russell is one of the best dog breeds in general, no matter what your sign. So let’s try something different.

Why is the Jack Russell an awesome dog for your sign — and others, too?

Let’s find out.

Capricorn

Capricorn people are born between December 22 and January 19. Born in the depths of winter, Capricorn folks have a reputation for being persistent, tough, serious, independent, and loving a challenge. Sound like anypup you know?

Capricorn people will appreciate the Jack Russell’s “dogged” determination. They will also appreciate the fact that JRTs often seem to have their own agenda. And when a JRT sets its mind to the task, whether it be chasing down prey or removing the squeaker from every toy in the house, just like a Capricorn person, they won’t stop until the job is done.

Aquarius

Aquarius, which rules the period of January 20 to February 18, might, at first glance, seem like the very opposite of Capricorn. Aquarius people think fast and can operate in ways that seem revolutionary, unpredictable, or even a bit kooky to people who aren’t on the same wavelength. Many Aquarians can’t stand to be lonely or bored, and are constantly seeking novelty. You will also find many February babies fighting for their favorite causes.

You probably already recognize characteristics that would make a JRT an excellent fit with the Aquarian mindset. Jack Russells need something to occupy their minds and bodies at all times. They move and think fast, and those movements can be difficult to predict. And they may have a goal that makes no sense to you, but perfect sense to them. In short: the perfect Aquarian dog!

Pisces

The stereotype of Pisces (February 19 to March 20) is someone who is peaceful, dreamy, and perhaps a bit psychic. This doesn’t sound like your typical overactive JRT at all! But Pisces people also tend to be friendly — and the outgoing Jack Russell is a famously friendly breed. Pisces, which is represented by a fish, also tends to enjoy and excel at swimming. And probably all of us know at least one JRT who loves to go for a dip. And, just like Pisces, the Jack Russell is loyal and caring to the ones they love.

Pisces people also often have an artistic streak. Guess what? So does the JRT! Whether acting as an artist’s muse, a beloved icon, or a star of stage and screen, you will find Jacks galore in the art world. One Jack, by the name of Tillamook Cheddar, even became a famous impressionist painter!

Aries

Now Aries — there’s a sign that can appreciate a Jack Russell! Aries people, born between March 21 and April 19, have a reputation for being tough and, as someone once said of the Jack Russell Terrier, “eager for a spirited argument.” But what some people might call aggressiveness, others know as confidence. Aries people also love a physical challenge. Aside from Saggitarius, there is probably no other more athletic sign. And Aries loves a good competition, as well.

The athletic, energetic, aggressive Jack Russell has a lot in common with Aries. The JRT can’t stand to be inactive — as we all know. The JRT has a lot of energy, both mental and physical, and does well if he or she has an activity into which to channel those energies. And as for aggressiveness? Give that a job, too. Despite their size, Jack Russells make excellent farm dogs, hunting dogs, and, watch dogs, and, not surprisingly, companions for cheetahs and other big cats.

Taurus

Taurus people are born between April 20 and May 20. People often use terms like “grounded,” “reliable,” “devoted,” and “possessive” to describe Taurus. Although sometimes slow-moving Taurus may seem a lot different from the stereotype Jack Russell Terror, Taurus and the JRT do have a lot in common.

Like what?

First, there’s the devotion. No one will love you and stick by you like your JRT — to the point of possessiveness, in some cases. Also, anyone who has ever tried to train a Jack Russell has come up against the breed’s legendary stubbornness. Housetraining, especially, can be a challenge. Taurus also has a reputation for enjoying luxury and fashion, and for being well turned-out. And plenty of Jacks enjoy looking their best as well!

Gemini

Gemini (May 21 to June 20) has a lot of personality traits that Jack Russell lovers will recognize immediately. Gemini people, in general, talk and think fast. They generally can’t stand being lonely or bored, and they love to be out and about. Friendly Gemini loves novelty, and is often the life of the party.

That definitely sounds like our dog! The Jack Russell, like Gemini people, is sociable, witty, and always ready for fun. At the same time, they may change focus — and direction — on a dime. It’s not that they have split personalities. Rather, they think too quickly for the rest of us mere mortals to keep up. And that’s definitely true of the Jack Russell Terrier a lot of the time!

Cancer

Cancer rules the period of June 21 to July 22. People born under this sign have the reputation for deep emotion. They tend to be imaginative and creative, as well as loyal, sympathetic, and tenacious. Cancer is also related to motherhood. Many people born in this sign find great satisfaction being parents or working with children.

Well, we already know about the Jack Russell’s famous tenacity! More than one Jack Russell has chased its prey so far into the burrow that the hunter has had to dig them both out. If your Jack is determined to get out of the yard, you may have to resort to extraordinary measures to keep them in. At the same time, there are few pets as loyal as a Jack who has decided that you’re their One and Only. And if you’re looking for a doggy soul mate, you will certainly find one in a Jack Russell.

Leo

Leo the Lion rules the period of July 22 to August 23. Leo is friendly and outgoing, and loves to be the center of attention. For this reason, many Leos find a happy home in show business. And a lot of Jacks do, too!

The friendly, outgoing Jack Russell, too, seems to be made for the stage and screen. With their quick minds, active bodies, and friendly spirits, Jack Russells are a natural for modeling, as well as work in commercials, films, and television. But even if you’re not yourself “in the industry,” the same qualities that make the Jack Russell a good fit for the show biz life make them a great fit for a Leo home.

Virgo

Virgo people are born between August 23 and September 22. The characteristics that many people associate with this sign are perfectionism, loyalty, a love of the outdoors, and a hardworking nature — a lot of the same qualities we all love in our JRTs!

The tough, athletic Jack Russell Terrier does very well with outdoor endeavors. Whether camping, hiking, or playing outdoor sports, you’re bound to find at least one Jack Russell making quick work of it. Like many Virgo people, many Jack Russells like to be dapper about town. And, we know we’ve already said this, but when it comes to loyalty, there are few who will stand by you like a Jack Russell Terrier.

Libra

Libra (September 23 to October 22) is often associated with balance and partnership. The symbol is the scale, and it’s a fitting one. Libras are social and cooperative. Like Virgo, Libra has a love for the outdoors. And they operate best as part of a team.

How is this like a Jack Russell Terrier? Well, many Libra people — like many Jack Russells — hate being alone. Do you have a Velcro dog? For many Libra people, who thrive in a partnership, that’s a great feature! You’ll notice that Jack Russells love to hang out with their friends, whether those friends are Doggy Daddies, Dog Moms, or animal friends much larger than themselves! When it comes to friendship and partnerships, the Jack Russell is all over it.

Scorpio

Scorpios, born between October 23 and November 22, are often seen as the bad boys and bad girls of the Zodiac. But is it just because Halloween falls when the sun is in Scorpio? Many describe Scorpio as ruling over sex and death. But Scorpio is also the sign of rebirth. Scorpio people have a reputation for being passionate and fiercely intelligent. They are also brave, stubborn, and the truest of true friends. Still Scorpio waters run deep, so caution is always of the essence.

What does that have to do with a Jack Russell? Plenty! Stubborn Scorpios may meet their match in the stubbornness of a Jack Russell Terrier. But while many of us might sigh over that challenge, persistent Scorpio will rise to it, and perhaps even appreciate it. Spirited and passionate? That’s the Jack Russell through and through.

Sagittarius

Like Aries, Saggitarius is the great sports lover of the Zodiac. Specifically, many Saggitarians (born between November 22 and December 21) love organized physical activity, and work well in a team. Saggitarians also typically love the outdoors, and really love to travel.

If you’re an active, globe-trotting Sag, a Jack Russell Terrier is a great fit for your household. Like Saggitarius, Jack Russells are friendly and outgoing. They like change and seek novelty wherever they can find it. Just make sure to give them plenty of love, as well as all the physical activity they can handle. But then, that’s good advice for all of us, isn’t it?

Can Dogs Have Astrological Signs?

Some people do believe that, just like with humans, the position of the stars at the time of an animal’s birth affects their personality throughout their life. Of course there are plenty of skeptics — and plenty of reasons to be skeptical.

But whether you think astrology is hocus-pocus, for entertainment purposes only, or a real and true guiding force in our lives, you have to admit, the Jack Russell Terrier is truly a dog for all seasons.

What sign are you? What sign is your dog? Do you think there’s anything to it? We’d love to hear your story!
