So?

So, if you want to spread some love — and some money — and strike it off your taxes, you know what you need to do.

And we’re here to help you do it.

And maybe save a few Jacks while you’re at it.

7 Fabulous Jack Russell Terrier Charities

Want to help Jacks across the country? Or maybe some closer to home? Here are some quality organizations that could really use your donations. Most of the charities on our list are either registered 503c charities, or pursuing 503c status, which means that your donations may be tax-deductible.

Before giving to any charity, always check closely to see what their mission is, and what they actually do. When in doubt, you can check an organization’s rating on CharityNavigator.com.

Russell Rescue, Inc.

Russell Rescue, Inc. recognizes that a lot of Jacks who end up abandoned or in shelters are there because their owners didn’t have a basic understanding of terrier character. Toward this end, they work toward educating owners, and helping them to work with their dogs instead of abandoning them. Russell Rescue also:

  • Provides temporary foster homes for Jacks in shelters or in danger of being abandoned
  • Rehomes Jacks in their system
  • Advises and supports owners to help them keep, rather than surrender their Jacks.

Russell Rescue, Inc. is a registered 503c charity, which means that your donation is fully tax-deductible.

Oklahoma Jack Russell Rescue

The Oklahoma Jack Russell Rescue doesn’t operate a shelter. Rather, they place Jack Russells in foster homes across the United States and in Canada. They also work to rehabilitate Jacks to help get them home-ready, and help to educate people about the Jack Russell breed. You can check out their Facebook page for more information. (Please note, as of this writing, this organization is pursuing, but has not yet received 503c status.)

Russell Rescue of Tennessee

The Russell Rescue of Tennessee focuses on abused, injured, and elderly small dogs, and others that tend to do poorly in the shelter system. They have a network of foster homes across the southern United States, and work with shelters to pull and foster abused, injured, and elderly small dogs. They also hold regular adoption events. As of this writing, they do not appear to be a 503c charity, but they do perform excellent, 100 percent volunteer work.

Georgia Jack Russell Rescue and Sanctuary

The Georgia Jack Russell Rescue and Sanctuary provides shelter and medical care for abandoned, neglected, abused, and surrendered Jack Russell terriers. They also adopt out the Jacks in their system. In addition, this rescue works to educate people about the unique needs of the Jack Russell Terrier breed, and to help owners to work with their pets, rather than surrendering them.

When you donate to the Georgia Jack Russell Rescue and Sanctuary, you can join special campaigns, make a general donation, or sponsor a specific dog in their system. They are a registered 503c charity, so your donations are 100 percent tax-deductible.

Jack Russell OWI

Jack Russell OWI is the regional rescue for Jack Russells in the northwestern United states: Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They rescue Jacks surrendered by their owners, and place them in foster homes. They are very strong advocates for owner education, and place dogs in terrier-friendly homes that recognize these dogs’ special needs. In addition, they spay/neuter and microchip each dog before adoption. Jack Russell OWI is a registered 503c charity, which means that donations are 100 percent tax-deductible.

They have a network of foster homes, and are always looking for more. Almost Home is a registered 503c charity, so, yes, you can take your donations to them off of your taxes.

Are You Ready to Do Some Good?

The best thing, of course, is to rescue a Jack yourself! But not everyone is in the position to do that. Donating to an organization that helps Jack Russells find homes can help you to spread the love — and to save some lives, too.

And while you’re at it, why not give a few hours of your time to your local JRT rescue?
